Notes from Podcast Boston 4, Aug 2009
// August 9th, 2009 // Uncategorized
I am exhausted physically and energized spiritually from three days of social media.
I presented a session on getting started on podcasting. It was a wonderful talk with people who are finding their voices and Adam Weiss. You can download the slides here.
My take aways from the weekend are as follows:
- There are always newbies trying to understand social media/internet
- Podcamp is a wonderful place to share and talk about “the conversation”
- Respectful debate is the next frontier
As always, I made podcamp what I wanted it to be, a few good conversations with thoughful people who want to understand what matters online. I had these talks with socail media pros, marketers, and newbies.
Please comment and let me know what you took away from podcamp.

I loved podcamp. i'm excited about adding something to the mix. Guido's talk inspired me to share things that i love to do in a podcast. I'm pretty sure that I was the only clawhammer banjo teacher in attendance. I've always wanted my music school http://www.minmanmusic.com to be connected to a community in different and significant ways. Guido sparked my thinking- thank you Guido!!
Thanks for being a great resource for newbies and pros, Guido. I really enjoyed podcamp last year. With the very open environment, new ideas spring from every conversation. Looking forward to seeing the podcamp format work at FiberCamp in January!
a month after podcamp…I don't like it on twitter when people follow you in the hopes of you following them to some how boost their numbers for some sort of weird marketing thrill. I've been posting banjo videos like this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEysjWItumQ for my students as a way to support their musical learning and hope to expand this with an eye towards supporting the oral tradition of handing tunes down from generation to generation. I am a little confused about RSS feeds and how to consolidate them or reference them.
Hey Guido – I went to your informative talk at Podcamp Boston 4 (not Podcast Boston?:-) and also appreciate the between-sessions-hanging-out-in-the-hallway 1:1 tutorial you offered me on selecting microphones and tips for using Audacity. You helped make my Podcamp experience worthwhile.
I know you are into both technology (databasey stuff, as I recall), and knitting, so I though of you when I encountered this post on how the Ravelry knitting-community site scales like crazy.
See you at Podcamp 5.
Cheers,
-Bill
